Is it possible to share television programs between two DVR’s from different manufacturers?
Posted on March 18th, 2009
I have an HD DVR from DirectTV in my living room. I also have a regular TiVo Series 2 DVR in my bedroom. I was wondering if it's possible to share programs between the two DVR's. I'm using home networking to connect the TiVo DVR. The DirectTV DVR gets programing information directly from the satalite link so I'm not even sure if it's possible to set it up for home networking. Thanks!

March 18th, 2009 at 10:53 pmIn your case it will not be possible. You can network your Tivo series 2 to your homes computer network but not the DirecTV DVR at this time. Now that said, IF you have a DirecTV Tivo then you can do some software modifications so that it can be networked to your homes computer network also.
What you are asking about is called MRV for MultiRoom Viewing and is ONLY possible with a Tivo or a DirecTV Tivo that has been modified. You can check out this site for more info: http://www.dvrplayground.com and this link for MRV and HMO setup: http://www.dvrplayground.com/article/12374/Enabling-MRV-and-HMO-with-a-DirecTiVo/
http://www.dvrplayground.com/article/13707/A-Home-with-Multiple-TiVos/I have 5 DirecTV Tivo's that are networked and enjoy MRV and HMO on all five, I even have a 6th DirecTV Tivo that is ONLY for MRV storage and is NOT connected to my DirecTV account. Here you can find another link to how to do this: http://www.dvrplayground.com/article/10171/Living-with-two-Series-2-TiVo-s/
http://www.dvrplayground.com/comments/10172/Discussion—Living-with-two-Series-2-TiVo-s/Again, I hope this helps. If you have any further questions or decide MRV is what you want to do then you can STILL purchase DirecTV Tivo's and use your DirecTV Access card in it so the D Tivo is on your account. If you OWN your DirecTV DVR+ then you can sell it to make back some of your money on a purchase of a D Tivo. DirecTV still allows DirecTV Tivo's to be used with their system. Check out this site for more info on this. http://www.weaknees.com or you can find them on Ebay also..They sell DirecTV units that have LARGE hard drives for MORE recording Time also…
